Shawn May, PA-C, MSW
Psychiatric Practitioner
I’m Shawn May, and I’m glad to be joining the Hinesburg Counseling Collaborative.
I have been practicing medicine for the past 15 years, including primary care and emergency medicine. I am now offering medication management and psychiatric assessments within my psychiatric medical practice, Vermont Mental Health Clinic. I became a Physician Associate after completing my post-baccalaureate pre-medical degree at the University of Vermont. I also obtained a Master’s in Clinical Social Work from UVM and have been practicing clinical social work for the past 25 years.
I practice from a patient-centered, strength-based approach that is informed by human rights and social justice. While offering psychiatric assessments and diagnosis, I do not seek to pathologize people. I believe that medications are tools we use to lessen symptoms as we do the delicate work of self-transformation, healing, and trauma recovery.
I look forward to meeting you and understanding more about your needs as we come up with a plan for how I might be able to assist you in your work of healing and recovery in the therapeutic setting.
