Groups, Workshops & Community Programs

In addition to individual therapy, HCC periodically offers therapeutic groups, workshops, and community-based programming. Offerings change throughout the year and may include programs for older adults, therapeutic groups, psychoeducation, and opportunities focused on connection and emotional wellness. Please see our group page for a list of our current offerings.

Training the Next Generation of Clinicians

Education and professional development are an important part of HCC's mission. We provide graduate internship opportunities, clinical supervision, supervised practice and billing opportunities for pre-licensed clinicians, peer consultation, and professional affiliation.

This training model allows developing clinicians to gain experience within a supportive professional community while helping expand access to mental health services in our region.

Finding the Right Fit

There is no single approach to therapy that works for everyone. One of the strengths of a collaborative practice is the ability to connect people with clinicians whose experience, approach, availability, and personality may be a good fit for their needs.

Poems

There's a Hole in My Sidewalk: The Romance of Self-Discovery

“I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost… I am helpless.
It isn’t my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don’t see it.
I fall in again.
I can’t believe I am in the same place.
But, it isn’t my fault.
It still takes me a long time to get out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in. It’s a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault. I get out immediately.

walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

I walk down another street.”

The Guest House by Rumi

The Guest House by Rumi
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

Wild Geese

You do not have to be good.

You do not have to walk on your knees

For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.

You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.

Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.

Meanwhile the world goes on.

Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes,

over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers.

Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,

are heading home again.

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,

the world offers itself to your imagination,

calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —

over and over announcing your place in the family of things.
